Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of pride, unity and national identity for Malaysians. The national flag is not merely displayed at government premises, educational institutions and homes, but also represents the nation’s history, patriotism and the harmony of a diverse society comprising people from different races, cultures and backgrounds.
Jalur Gemilang consists of 14 alternating red and white stripes, representing the equal membership of the 13 states and the Federal Government in the Malaysian Federation. The dark blue colour symbolises the unity of the Malaysian people, while the crescent moon and 14-point star represent Islam as the religion of the Federation and the unity of the states and Federal Government. The yellow colour signifies the royal institution.
During the National Month celebration, flying Jalur Gemilang is one of the meaningful ways to foster patriotism and strengthen the spirit of love for the country. Every flutter of the flag serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by previous generations in building a sovereign, peaceful and prosperous nation.
As Malaysians, we have a responsibility to respect Jalur Gemilang and appreciate the values represented by its colours and symbols. Patriotism is not only expressed by flying the national flag, but also through mutual respect, preserving harmony and contributing positively to the nation’s development. Together, let us uphold the spirit of unity and continue to cherish Jalur Gemilang as a proud symbol of Malaysia.
