Reviewing Direction, Weaving Confidence: iDEC and Responsibility Towards Worship Spaces

In the busyness of daily work, the prayer room in the office often becomes a quiet and peaceful place—a space where employees pause for a moment to turn to God. But how confident are we, really, that this space fulfills the true basic requirements of worship?

With this awareness, iDEC has taken proactive steps to reverify the qibla direction in all its prayer rooms. It’s not just about coordinates or a line on the floor, but about clarity and certainty. When the qibla has been accurately verified, we perform our prayers not only with our bodies facing the right direction but also with a calmer, more assured heart.

Basic Needs Often Overlooked

We often assume that a prayer room is “sufficient” if there is a prayer mat, a partition wall, and a clean space to prostrate. However, the qibla direction—which is a fundamental condition for the validity of prayer—is often determined using free mobile applications, which, while helpful, may have slight inaccuracies compared to physical verification by authorized authorities.

iDEC has chosen not to take this matter lightly. Through internal initiatives and collaboration with the relevant authorities, systematic checks of the qibla direction have been conducted to ensure that every prayer space in each building truly faces the correct direction.

Professional Methods for Determining Qibla Direction

Professional determination of the qibla direction involves using methods that are more accurate and valid than ordinary mobile applications. In inspections conducted by representatives from the Selangor State Mufti Department, GPS coordinate data of the location is used in combination with physical tools such as laser alignment devices, protractors, and manual sketching based on actual azimuth calculations. This method allows for a more precise determination of the qibla direction in accordance with the building’s geographical position and in line with religious requirements.

Not Just a Direction, But a Responsibility

This effort reflects an important value in iDEC’s work culture—concern for the holistic well-being of its employees, including their spiritual needs. It also highlights that facilities are not merely physical structures, but enablers of valid and confident worship.

The accuracy of the qibla direction is not just a technical issue, but part of a management responsibility that understands the role of the institution in supporting a balanced life—between work and worship.

In a world that is constantly changing, ensuring the right direction remains a priority—in our duties and in our worship.
