UPM PutraFiber

PutraFiber (Fiber To The Room – FTTR) is an important initiative by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to enhance internet network facilities in student residential colleges. PutraFiber is part of the university’s effort to strengthen its digital infrastructure and support online learning processes.

The project utilises the latest networking technology, namely Huawei Passive Ethernet Network (PEN), which is capable of providing high-speed and more stable internet connectivity compared to conventional network technologies. The provision of this facility aims to ensure that every student has faster and more reliable internet access directly in their rooms.

The use of this technology also offers several advantages in terms of network management. These include simplifying maintenance and troubleshooting work, improving energy efficiency, and reducing operational costs in the long term. In addition, the system is designed to ensure a more efficient and reliable network for campus users.

Overall, PutraFiber plays a significant role in supporting online teaching and learning processes in line with the rapid advancement of digital technology. With improved internet facilities in residential colleges, students can attend classes, access learning materials, and complete academic assignments more easily and effectively.
