UPM Receives Huawei Recognition at Huawei Network Summit 2026 Asia Pacific

BALI, INDONESIA, 13 August 2026 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) continues to strengthen its position as a higher education institution committed to advancing digital transformation after receiving a special recognition from Huawei in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between UPM and Huawei. The recognition was presented in the form of an appreciation plaque, received by Ts. Sayid Mohamad Nazari bin Sayid Ismail, Head of the ICT Network Section, Information and Communication Development Centre (iDEC), UPM, who represented UPM at the Huawei Network Summit (HNS) 2026 Asia Pacific held at the Grand Hyatt Bali, Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia.

UPM’s participation in HNS 2026 Asia Pacific reflects a strategic relationship that has been continuously strengthened over the past decade, particularly in network technology, data communications and digital infrastructure. The collaboration has contributed towards UPM’s efforts to strengthen its digital ecosystem and develop a smarter, more connected and resilient campus environment.

HNS 2026 Asia Pacific is part of Huawei’s annual Huawei Network Summit series, which brings together customers, strategic partners, industry players, analysts and technology leaders from across the Asia Pacific region. With the theme “Xinghe Intelligent Network, Innovations Never Stop”, the summit focused on intelligent networking, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and technological innovations that support digital transformation.

The recognition is particularly significant as UPM was also acknowledged as the first university outside China to successfully implement Huawei’s Fiber-to-the-Room (FTTR) technology. UPM’s FTTR implementation was further highlighted as one of Huawei’s customer success stories during a breakout keynote session, providing an international platform for UPM to share its experience and achievements in implementing advanced network infrastructure with industry leaders and participants.

The implementation of FTTR at UPM represents a strategic initiative to strengthen high-performance network infrastructure in support of the university’s smart campus environment. The technology contributes towards improving network connectivity, data access capabilities and digital infrastructure readiness, particularly in responding to emerging technologies, AI-based applications and the growing demand for digital services.

The HNS 2026 Asia Pacific event brought together approximately 300 participants from various sectors, including public services, finance, education, healthcare, energy, transportation, retail and manufacturing. Key discussions focused on Huawei’s latest strategies and initiatives in data communications, innovative networking solutions, product developments, strategic partnerships and customer success stories in building intelligent networks for the AI era.

In addition to the keynote sessions, the programme featured topic-based roundtables, executive meetings, booth visits and a gala dinner. These activities provided participants with valuable opportunities to exchange insights, explore emerging technologies and discuss potential collaborations in strengthening and developing digital infrastructure.

The recognition marks an important milestone in the 10-year strategic partnership between UPM and Huawei, while highlighting the positive outcomes of sustained industry collaboration. It also demonstrates UPM’s continuous commitment, particularly through iDEC, to strengthening ICT infrastructure and adopting advanced network technologies in support of its digital and smart campus aspirations.

The achievement further reflects UPM’s proactive approach in leveraging strategic industry partnerships to accelerate technological innovation. With continued collaboration and investment in digital infrastructure, UPM is well positioned to enhance its technological readiness and contribute towards advancing the digital transformation agenda in higher education at both the national and Asia Pacific levels.
