The conference themed "Data and Artificial Intelligence: Empowering the Future" was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib. He emphasized the importance of the development of artificial intelligence (AI) which will continue to be emphasized in the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13) to strengthen the country's capacity in the technology.
MyStats 2024 attracted over 1,000 participants from among statisticians, academics, and researchers. The conference focuses on the application of data and AI in the public service sector, smart agriculture, and industrial automation. Among the important sessions that were highlighted was the discussion on progressive wages and the dilemma of job loss.
In addition, awards such as MyStats Best Young Statistician Presenter and Best Poster Presenter are presented in recognition of the contributions of young researchers in the field of high-impact statistics.
UPM's participation in this event is expected to strengthen cooperation and improve data analysis capabilities to support evidence-based national policy development.
The main objective of the 11th Malaysian Statistics Conference (MyStats) 2024 is to discuss the role of data and artificial intelligence (AI) in empowering the future of various sectors such as public services, smart agriculture, and industrial automation.
The conference also aims to:
- Improving Understanding in the Use of Statistics and AI: Providing a platform for participants to share ideas and knowledge in the application of statistics and AI to strengthen evidence-based analysis.
- Strengthening Collaboration Between Agencies and Academics: Encouraging collaboration between researchers, academics, and government agencies in an effort to improve the country's analytical capacity.
- Supporting Evidence-Based Policy Formation: Assist in the formation of more effective and comprehensive government policies through the use of accurate statistics.
- Recognition of Contributors in the Field of Statistics: Recognize young researchers and contributors in the field of statistics through awards such as Best Young Statistician Presenter and Best Poster Presenter.
