SERDANG, 12 February 2026 – The Digital Innovation and Policy Division, InfoComm Development Centre (iDEC), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with an external company representative, organised a DJI Drone Technology Demonstration Session to introduce the latest capabilities, functions, and applications of drone technology that have the potential to support university operations, monitoring activities, and digital innovation initiatives.
The programme was attended by 25 iDEC staff members and was conducted in two main sessions. The programme began with a briefing at the Media Meeting Room, iDEC Gamma, followed by a live drone flight demonstration at the compound of the iDEC Gamma Building.
During the briefing session, participants were introduced to various drone features, imaging capabilities, and potential applications in areas related to university management and operations. The session also provided an overview of the growing role of drone technology as a supporting technology for faster and more effective information and data collection.
The flight demonstration provided participants with an opportunity to observe the operation of the drone firsthand, including flight control techniques and its capabilities in capturing aerial visuals. Participants were also introduced to the visual materials and data generated from the drone activity, providing them with a clearer understanding of the practical applications and potential benefits of the technology.
The practical exposure enabled iDEC staff to explore potential applications of drone technology in areas such as facility monitoring, documentation, site observation, data collection, and other relevant operational requirements.
The demonstration session also provided an opportunity for iDEC staff to gain new knowledge about emerging technologies and assess their potential integration within UPM’s digital ecosystem. Engagement with industry representatives further encouraged knowledge exchange and opened opportunities for future collaboration in technology and innovation.
Overall, the programme is expected to enhance awareness and understanding among iDEC staff regarding the development of drone technology while encouraging the exploration of emerging technologies that could add value to university operations and services. The initiative is aligned with iDEC’s continuous efforts to foster a culture of innovation and support UPM’s digital transformation agenda.
