Driving UPM's Digital Transformation Through Impactful ICT Project Management

SERDANG, 29 June – In ensuring that every ICT project is implemented with strong governance and achieves its intended objectives, the Information Development and Communication Centre (iDEC), through its Project Management Section (SPP), organised the UPM ICT Project Enhancement Programme to coordinate project implementation, assess progress, and strengthen ICT project management across the university.

The programme focused on progress presentations for 19 ongoing ICT development projects, while also reviewing implementation issues, potential risks, mitigation strategies, and follow-up actions to ensure that each project is delivered according to the established plans, timelines, and objectives.

Beyond serving as a platform for monitoring project progress, the programme also reinforced ICT project governance by enhancing implementation coordination, strengthening monitoring processes, and ensuring compliance with the University's ICT Development Procedures and related guidelines. These measures provide a solid foundation for managing ICT projects in a more systematic, consistent, and effective manner.

The discussions also addressed key implementation challenges, particularly the need to balance development resources with the equally important responsibility of maintaining existing systems that support the University's daily operations. This proactive approach enables potential issues to be identified at an early stage, allowing timely corrective actions to be implemented without affecting the progress of ongoing projects.

The programme also served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices among project teams, further enhancing coordination and improving the overall effectiveness of ICT project management across the university.

Through its continued commitment to sound project management practices, iDEC remains dedicated to ensuring that every digital transformation initiative is carefully planned, effectively executed, and aligned with its intended objectives, while continuing to strengthen the delivery of high-quality digital services at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
