VDI Smart Desktop for Student Lab

This Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) refers to the process of operating a user's desktop inside a virtual machine (VM) on a server. It's a great form of desktop virtualization as users can better manage their management through desktop integration and centralization. However it is important to understand that VDI is just a form of desktop virtualization. With virtualization we can run different types of desktop applications and operating systems on the same machine.

Putra®Edu Cloud

The server infrastructure for the needs of students, faculty, researchers and staff is individually developed on the basis of innovation grants. This individual development makes server sharing (resource sharing) impossible between applications. The development of technology in the teaching and learning process requires space for storing teaching and learning information. Increased research activities also require storage to house data and testing processes.

Putra®Live

The use of video in teaching and learning has become a necessity for students to better understand the lessons presented. Internet access allows videos to be achieved using the Video on Demand and Live Streaming methods. Video on Demand is a method of getting a collection of videos recorded and stored on a server anytime online such as YouTube. Live streaming is a video that is broadcast live over the internet such as Facebook Live.

Components included in Putra®Live:

(a) Video on Demand and Live Streaming known as Putra®Live.
(b) Training content providers such as lecturers and researchers to produce videos and use Putra®Live.
(c) Appropriate equipment for lecturers to hold their own live streaming.

   

Putra®Helpdesk

The Helpdesk ICT service will use the help system that applies Chatbots technology. It will revolutionize the future of the industry with its simple and customer-friendly features. Customer satisfaction is also one of the key indicators for organizations and chatbots to take advantage of. It will reduce errors, availability over time and eliminate the need for various mobile applications.

To provide easy-to-access and customer-friendly services, the following suggestions have been developed namely Chatbot and AI technology (Artificial Intelligence), Machine Learning and NLP (Natural Language Processing).

1 Staff 1 Apps

The initiative towards smart campus through the 1 staff 1 apps program is in line with the launch of the ICT Transformation Plan where UPM needs to respond to the challenge of providing an ideal future ICT environment and also in line with the strategic and operational initiatives that support the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) for increase the efficiency of operations to a higher level. In UPM, the trend of using mobile applications among campus people is still limited as UPM-branded mobile applications are still under development, applications that can provide a significant impact to the campus community. It is hoped that this initiative will see the diversity of mobile application technologies developed by UPM staff itself will support the work, teaching and learning process at UPM while also changing the trend of users who may be more comfortable using the mobile web browser than the applications mobile.

 

Putra®Smart Classroom

The educational transformation is changing from conventional teaching and learning to more dynamic and creative in keeping with the current developments.

 

Putra®eWallet

UPM's path to creating a Smart Campus can be supported by establishing a Cashless Campus Society among UPM residents. Digital wallet or e-wallet is the latest innovation in the payment process where payment transactions have eliminated the use of cash and credit cards at the time of purchase. Introducing eWallet known as Putra®eWallet among UPM residents especially students as a Smart Campus initiative in the process of payment transactions in various transactions for UPM.

 

Putra® VR Arena

Virtual Reality (VR) or virtual reality is a way that allows users to experience different experiences using video audio. It will make the person seem to be in the target location. VR technology has been around for a long time but is not widely used due to network constraints and appropriate devices. VR technology is increasingly being used where video transmission has become easier. The use of VR in teaching, learning, events and administration will help UPM towards its mission.
