SERDANG, 10–11 February 2026 – The InfoComm Development Centre (iDEC), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organised the UPM Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan Development Workshop Series 2 at the Student Co-Curriculum and Development Centre Hall. The workshop was one of the university’s strategic initiatives to strengthen the planning and implementation of its artificial intelligence agenda.
The workshop aimed to develop the UPM AI Implementation Plan for 2026–2030 as a strategic framework to guide and strengthen the adoption of AI technologies across the university. The plan is expected to provide a clear, structured, and focused implementation framework that addresses the needs of academia, research, administration, and university service delivery.
The initiative is aligned with UPM’s aspiration to strengthen its position as a higher education institution that is responsive to technological developments while exploring the potential of AI to enhance efficiency, productivity, innovation, and service quality. Strategic AI adoption also has the potential to support data-driven decision-making and enhance the overall experience of the university community.
The second series of the workshop served as a continuation of the AI Plan Development Workshop held on 2 December 2025. The follow-up workshop focused on refining the proposed plans, coordinating strategic directions, and identifying key actions required to ensure that the university’s AI plan can be implemented progressively and effectively.
The participation of representatives from various areas of expertise was essential in ensuring that the development of the UPM AI Action Plan takes into account diverse perspectives, requirements, and challenges across the university. The diversity of expertise also contributed to more comprehensive discussions, knowledge sharing, and strategic coordination among relevant stakeholders.
Through collaborative discussions and working sessions, participants had the opportunity to identify priorities, initiatives, and follow-up activities that will shape UPM’s AI transformation direction for 2026–2030. This collaborative approach is expected to ensure that AI development at UPM is implemented systematically, responsibly, and with meaningful impact.
Overall, the workshop served as an important platform for strengthening UPM’s readiness to navigate the rapid development of AI technologies. The outcomes are expected to contribute towards a comprehensive AI action plan and provide a strong foundation for implementing innovative, ethical, and sustainable AI initiatives in support of UPM’s continued excellence.
