Alhamdulillah, thanks to Allah SWT by His grace, we are blessed with good health to discharge our responsibilities and duties that have been assigned to us. Let us come together and continue to give our best in our practices, careers and contributions.
As we all know, 2017 has been a year where we are confronted with many challenges due to the uncertain economic situation that has forced the government to reduce financial allocations to government agencies. Quoting an exceprt from the new year’s speech of the Vice Chancellor of UPM 2017, Professor Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris mentioned that the university faces many challenges and adverse situations particularly in relation to funding and financing of higher education.
This is a global challenge and we should not be discouraged, instead, we should acknowledge it as a catalyst for UPM to continue moving forward. She also appealed to all the staff of UPM to continue to be creative and innovative in mainstreaming entrepreneurship, apart from aiming to generate their own income gradually.
The InfoComm Development Center (iDEC) which is the backbone for UPM ICT services shall continue to provide the best service to the entire campus community.
In line with the recommendations of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Vice Chancellor to reinforce good governance by upgrading the skill and competency of the staff, iDEC shall strive to improve the services that it offers.
The restructuring of iDEC in the years 2016 and 2017 shall be reviewed to gauge its effectiveness as well as the impact of its implementation. With the successful development of 15 ICT systems in 2016, iDEC shall strive to intensify system development. Income generating activities as well as transformation and enhancement of services shall also be implemented. iDEC is committed in ensuring and supporting every plan that have been formulated in the UPM ICT Strategic Plan (2016 - 2020).
Last but not least, to all the staff of iDEC, let us join hands and work together with sincerity and professionalism in order to provide our best service in ICT to Universiti Putra Malaysia.
