Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh and Salam Sejahtera,


Alhamdulillah, thanks be to Allah SWT because with His permission and bounty, we are still given good health to carry out the trust and tasks that have been given. Let us together continue to sow devotion, sweat towards the improvement of our practices, careers and contributions.


Time is passing so fast and now we are in the 21st century which is becoming more modern and rapid with technology getting faster. One of the initiatives that is mentioned and needs to be practiced in Institutions of Higher Learning is the Smart Campus Initiative.


This initiative that connects educational institutions, industry, ministries and society is a technology that can realize innovative 21st century teaching and learning through Shift 7: (Utilizing ICT to improve the quality of learning in Malaysia). In line with the aspirations in the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2013-2025 which emphasizes the Smart Campus initiative in Higher Education Institutions, the Infocomm Development Center (iDEC) is determined to make the initiative a success.


The Information and Communication Development Center has set two (2) KPIs for Strategic Objectives Goal 5, namely Improving Infrastructure, Library Services, Information Technology and Communication Systems in the Strategic Plan of Universiti Putra Malaysia 2021-2025. Focusing on improving ICT infrastructure, iDEC strives to ensure improvements to Server and Storage infrastructure (Putra®Cloud) and computer networks (UPMNet).

For the second KPI which is infostructure, emphasis has been given to the UPM Human Resource Application transformation project, the expansion of the UPM PTJ Support Application (Putra ASIS) as well as the transformation of the UPM Student Information System (4.0).

In line with Universiti Putra Malaysia's ICT Transformation Plan, the focus of iDEC is to upgrade computer networks that can support BYOD, Future Classroom, Putra®Cloud technology as well as expand wireless network coverage at UPM Campus. IoT, Mobile Applications, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality are technologies that will be supported in infostructure transformation projects.


The current challenge of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 is in line with the rapidly changing development of ICT technology, inspiring iMEC UPM to realize it where academics and students can explore best practices on how the culture of knowledge that is the legacy of great civilization and continues to be the guide of all. Hopefully, the success in the implementation of the Strategic Plan and ICT Transformation will intensify research activities related to innovative learning and teaching through collaboration with fellow researchers, industry, educational institutions and community in order to increase the prestige of the University as a leading and internationally recognized institution.


Finally, to all iDEC employees, let us all work together sincerely and professionally in order to provide the best ICT services to Universiti Putra Malaysia.
